Protecting Access. Preserving Our Community.

Cole Creek is more than a waterway. It is an important part of life in Hollywood Shores—providing access to the Patuxent River for boating, fishing and crabbing while contributing to the character and value of our waterfront community.

Today, that access is at risk.

For more than 30 years, sand and sediment have accumulated at the entrance to Cole Creek, significantly restricting navigable access between the creek and the Patuxent River. Without action, continued accumulation could eventually make the entrance impassable, preventing residents from safely accessing the river from our community dock and private properties.

Neighbors Protecting Cole Creek (NPCC) is a community-led initiative working to preserve and restore this important access for current and future Hollywood Shores residents.

Why This Matters

Maintaining navigable access to Cole Creek benefits the entire Hollywood Shores community.

  • Protects our waterfront access and resources.
  • Supports boating, fishing, kayaking and recreation.
  • Helps protect Hollywood Shores property values.
  • Preserves a shared natural asset for current and future generations.

Even neighbors who do not regularly use the creek benefit from preserving one of our community’s most valuable natural and recreational resources.

Why Action Is Needed Now

Why Action Is Needed

Over time, sand and sediment have gradually accumulated at the entrance to Cole Creek, restricting navigable access between the creek and the Patuxent River.

Periodic hydraulic dredging is necessary to keep the channel open and navigable. This is a maintenance project—not a permanent fix—and continued community support will be important to preserving access to Cole Creek now and in the future.

About Neighbors Protecting Cole Creek

Neighbors Protecting Cole Creek (NPCC) is a separate, volunteer, project-specific organization formed to support the Cole Creek dredging project.

NPCC is not a committee, subcommittee, agent or financial arm of any other organization.

Contributions are voluntary and are not tax-deductible. Please consult your tax professional regarding the tax treatment of your contribution.

This helps distinguish NPCC from the Hollywood Shores Civic Association, which I think is important on a neighborhood website.
